I have always been a creative person. It’s part of everything I do from gardening to cooking, to making art. Painting is kind of a vocabulary for me. When I paint, I feel like I’m describing something with the paintbrush or pencil. For me, that’s always been easier than describing with words. My first creative memory as a child was finding a pad of tracing paper in my mother’s desk drawer and experiencing the smooth glide of my colored pencils across that paper! I filled the pages with drawings of things in motion like clouds, birds, and candle flames. It’s my earliest memory of trying to capture a moment in an image. 

 

I chose Kingfisher as the name for the studio because they’re one of my very favorite birds. Tidewater natives, kingfishers are distinctive, unique, and unmistakable. They’re also one of the few species of birds in which the female is more colorful than the male. It’s a perfect fit!  

 

I recently produced a gallery sale for myself and other local artists. The event was a huge success and a great experience for all the artists. It convinced me that it was time to create an online presence for my paintings, as well as a platform to promote and sell work of other artists whose work I love. I can’t wait for you to see it!
